9. Dogtanian And The Three Muskehounds
An animated cartoon version of d'Artagnan and the Three Musketeers by Dumas, Dogtanian plays out the story with animals replacing humans. The story is set in the 17th century, it features Dogtanian, a young dog who has high ambitions to become a musketeer. So off he goes to Paris and actually meets the three muskehounds (Aramis, Porthos and Athos) and befriends them. He falls in love with Juliette, a maid in waiting for Queen Anne of Austria. Whenever I was a kid, I was totally obsessed with Dogtanian. I never missed a single episode. The box set has been lingering in my 'Things to Buy Later' basket on Amazon for years. The theme tune - One for All and All for One is exceedingly catchy. The story may take historical liberties and may be performed by anthropomorphic characters but the film was an interesting piece of period history and drama for me. I was well absorbed by it all and woe betide anyone who got between me and the tv on a Saturday morning!
