20 Vintage Kids TV Shows From The Golden Age

6. Blue Peter

blue peter On the air since 1958, Blue Peter is the longest running children's programme produced by the BBC. These days it is primarily a magazine/entertainment show which features challenges for the hosts and the viewers. There are of course the famous 'Here's one I prepared earlier' arts and crafts. Blue Peter is an educational show which likes to demonstrate things from other cultures such as a tribe of African men dancing. Every single episode of Blue Peter has been archived by the BBC. It has become famous for a couple of cock ups including - Lulu the elephant who poohed and peed all over the studio floor. She trod on John Noakes' foot and dragged her handler through the pooh and pee. Blue Peter has now gone beyond the state of being a kid's TV show, it is a national institution. I never really engaged with the show as a kid but millions did - hence its place on this list as a classic.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
