20 Vintage Kids TV Shows From The Golden Age

5. Knightmare

knightmare Knightmare ran from 1987-1994 on CITV and has achieved legendary status with repeats being shown on the Challenge channel on SKY on a fairly regular basis. The game is an incredibly complex one, so I will not be detailing the gameplay in this review. All you need to know is that Knightmare is an adventure game which involves four children (between 11-16). One takes the part of the dungeoneer who wears a big hat and is sightless. The other three children have to guide the dungeoneer through a medieval landscape in order to escape the castle. The programme relied on interactive environments. Knightmare was an instant hit upon its first broadcast. In its hey day, it was attracting 4-5 million viewers which is extremely high for a children's television programme. I absolutely adored Knightmare, it was broadcast on a Friday so it became associated with the beginning of the weekend for me. It was a very clever concept that catered to older children and lots of people of a certain age will remember it fondly.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
