2. Rainbow
PAINT THE WHOLE WORLD WITH A RAINBOW!! On our screens for 20 golden years, Rainbow is an iconic kid's programme that everyone of a certain age will have watched. Impossible not to like because of its engaging characters, Rainbow is legendary for Zippy's naughty behaviour and incessant cravings for sausages. George - the rather effete pink hippo would always get his knickers in a twist over Zippy's antics. Each episode took place in the Rainbow household where a situation would rise between Zippy, Bungle and George. Geoffrey was the voice of reason to sort everything out (usually naughty Zippy's fault). Geoffrey would often read a story, there would be an animation, and those hoary old hippies - Rod, Jane and Freddy would lend their music talents with a song. Geoffrey was a little bit sinister, dressed in kid's clothing and interacting with a bunch of camp puppets (I truly believe Bungle and George were enmeshed in a secret gay affair). Another show which is compulsively watchable - even to adults. I had Rainbow VHS tapes back in the day and watched them so much they broke. It was a fantastic, surreal programme, the like of which they just wouldn't make today
