21 TV Shows With Iconic Theme Songs

4. Alfred Hitchcock Presents

Series Debut: 1955 "Funeral March of a Marionette" served as the opening theme for the murder mystery classic anthology series, which debuted in 1955, making it the earliest debuting show to appear on this list. The song was composed for the piano by Charles Gounod in 1872 and later orchestrated. Alfred Hitchcock Presents represents the peak of the tunes popularity, though Gounod would never live to see it - or the invention of the television, as he died in 1893 of an apparent stroke. Hitchcock chose it after having heard it played over the 1927 silent film Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans. The show used five versions from five different arrangers, first by Stanley J. Wilson, and later by Bernard Herrman, who also worked on Pyscho, Vertigo, and other Hitchcock classics, as well as classics like Citizen Cane, Cape Fear, and Taxi Driver. The theme is as memorable as Hitchcock's "Good evening" introduction, and a fantastic example of an iconic television theme that was lifted from an entirely different era. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_AmqBGDJDs
