On Day 1, Jack failed to realise that CTU employees Jamey Farrell and Nina Myers were both working as moles for a terrorist group plotting against the United States. These women became key players in all of the events that occurred throughout the day. Halfway through the day, however, Jameys actions were discovered. She considered offering help to Jack in exchange for him clearing her charges, but never reached that point due to Nina murdering her to prevent her from giving up any information.

On Day 1, Jacks wife, Teri, was murdered by none other than his own mistress, Nina Myers. Jack had been given evidence that led him to believe Nina was working with the terrorists against CTU, but because of their history he dismissed it after a protest and loose alibi from Nina. After Jack decided she must be innocent, he allowed her to remain in the inner information circle in the days events. While at CTU, Nina was in the midst of a phone call with the terrorists when Teri overheard her, and Nina killed her.
