24: Legacy Season 1 Review - 4 Ups & 6 Downs

2. All The Lame Soap Opera Romance

24 Legacy Nicole Isaac
Fox

Soap opera melodrama is no stranger to 24, but it reached an exhausting fever pitch this season. From the weird and creepy love triangle between Eric (Corey Hawkins), his wife Nicole (Anna Diop) and Eric's brother Isaac (Ashley Thomas) to Tony's needless romantic past with Rebecca (Miranda Otto) and his new lover Sidra's (Moran Atias) clear jealously, it was all eye-rollingly awful.

Sure, 24 needs some lighter subplots to pad things out between all the action and suspense, but when little effort has been made to actually make the audience care about these characters, doubling down on the terrible romance seems thoroughly misguided.

Contrary to what studio executives believe, most people don't need to sit through cringe-worthy romantic squabbling to get invested in human struggle.
