Played By - Paul Schulze, Episode - Day 3: 6.00am-7.00am Throughout the first two seasons of 24, Ryan Chappelle is never portrayed in a flattering manner, always seeming to bureaucratically obstruct the renegade actions of Jack Bauer and his allies and get in their way as he oversees operations. In season three, he redeems himself for his previous demeanour somewhat by allowing hotel guests infected with the Cordilla virus to be given suicide pills despite it being against protocol. Around the same time, he inadvertently stumbles across a vulnerability that could affect the plans of villain Stephen Saunders, though he doesn't realise it. Saunders discovers this, and being in possession of the Cordilla Virus, orders that Chappelle be executed. After a plan to capture Saunders before his given deadline fails, President Palmer is forced to order Jack to terminate an innocent man to save the lives of others. In one of the series' most heartfelt moments, Chappelle requests the opportunity to pull the trigger himself, but cannot do it, prompting Jack to apologetically shoot him in the head in order to acquiese to a terrorist's demand.

Played By - Leslie Hope, Episode - Day 1: 11.00pm-12.00am It couldn't be anything else, could it? Despite splitting up some time before the beginning of 24's first season, Jack had been back with his wife Teri for six months as the day began, with their relationship amicable and on the mend despite the resentful behaviour of their daughter Kim towards her mother. Kidnapped (along with Kim) by terrorists to kickstart the day's events and attempt to coerce Jack into assassinating David Palmer, Teri is eventually rescued by her husband, who is helped by others including co-worker Nina Myers. As the day goes on, Kim is kidnapped again by the Drazen family, who wish both Palmer and Bauer dead for their past actions. Teri remains at CTU as her husband goes on the warpath, getting restless and eventually going in search of Nina. Having been exposed as a Drazen mole (though this is unbeknownst to Teri), Nina is in the process of engineering an escape for herself. She encounters Teri and assures her that Jack and Kim are safe, but Teri's observation skills prove to be her downfall, as she notices the body of a worker that Nina has killed and is tied up and killed for it. It was one of the first truly defining moments for the show, made more sombre by the revelation that she was pregnant, which warned viewers in shocking fashion that nobody was safe and that anybody could die at any moment.
