24 Most Memorable Deaths From 24

22. Martin Belkin (And Flight 221)

Played By - Rudolf Martin, Episode - Day 1: 12.00am-1.00am Back in 2001, 24's first episode ended in explosive fashion. Having established the characters of Jack Bauer and his family and coworkers, as well as Presidential candidate David Palmer, the scene cuts to a plane in flight, where renowned photographer Martin Belkin is en-route to take pictures of the man who could soon be sitting in the Oval Office. On board, he is seduced by a woman named Mandy, and the two have sex in the plane's bathroom. It seems harmless enough, until Martin awakens following a nap some time later and realises that his ID is missing, shortly before the plane and everybody aboard (sans his seducer, who required his access to Palmer on behalf of her employers) is blown into smithereens by a bomb, more than adequately setting the tone for what was to come over the next nine years.

21. Marshall Goren

Played By - Carl Ciarfalio, Episode - Day 2: 8.00am-9.00am As 24's second season begins, Jack Bauer is out of the CTU loop, but he is quickly convinced back into proceedings by newly-elected President David Palmer. In need of a way to re-establish his cover with a domestic terrorist group that he once infiltrated, he asks that a federal witness named Marshall Goren be brought to CTU. His request is fulfilled, though Jack's superiors have no knowledge of the fact that Bauer seeks out Goren, a murderer and paedophile set to walk free as a result of his testimony, only to shoot him at point blank range and chop off his head with a hacksaw to deliver to the group's leader, Joseph Wald, as a show of loyalty. It was one of the first times that Bauer had acted in a shocking and somewhat 'unhinged' way, but it certainly wouldn't be the last.
