25 Best Superhero TV Shows Of All Time
12. Supergirl
Without question, one of the most talked-about debuts for a superhero show in history, Supergirl's explosion onto network television was watched by almost 13 million people. Though it gets considerably less viewers these days (thanks to a move to The CW) that doesn't mean her adventures have gotten any less engaging.
Centering on Superman's cousin, the show is a colourful, triumphant and light-hearted adventure that ensures its titular character steps out of her cousin's shadow and into the spotlight. It's fun-filled and rather ambitious for television - all of which make it feel that bit more movie-like and Melissa Benoist's endearing performance as the Girl of Steel has resulted in her becoming the definitive version of Supergirl in a very short amount of time.
The first female-led superhero show since Lynda Carter's Wonder Woman in the 1970s, there's no downplaying just how revolutionary Supergirl is, and the success that it has enjoyed no doubt played a part in both DC and Marvel's gravitation towards more female-led shows and, eventually, movies.
