25 Best Supporting Characters From The Simpsons

3. Police Chief Clancy Wiggum

The incompetent, grossly over-weight Commissioner of the Springfield Police Force, Clancy Wiggum is what€™s wrong with law and order in the city. He enjoys the odd bribe, is dangerously ill-informed when it comes to the law, is incredibly lazy and is happy to flaunt his power when he feels like it. He doesn€™t always see eye-to-eye with Lou and Eddie but he proves his worth as their mentor, and for some reason, they respect him. But he almost always has the best intentions at heart and really does want to be good at his job, despite his shortcomings. He€™s quite the family man too and has a wonderfully loving relationship with his son, Ralph and wife, Sarah.

2. Moe Szyslak

Before he became the short-tempered, lonely, suicidal, shotgun-waving owner of Moe€™s Tavern, Moe was a child actor in The Little Rascals, playing the character of Smelly. But he was fired for killing Alfalfa after he stole his gag. He later took up boxing under the names €˜Kid Gorgeous€™, €˜Kid Presentable€™, €˜Kid Grusome€™ then finally €˜Kid Moe€™ and blames his boxing career for ruining his looks and costing him a part on the soap-opera €˜It Never Ends€™. After attending Swigmore University, he opened his own bar, albeit on out-of-date liquor licences. There is a soft side to Moe however €“ he has a cat named Mr. Snookums and he reads to homeless people at a soup kitchen and sick children at the hospital.
