16. Daryl's Fake-Out "Death" - The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead Daryl
AMC

After already doing a rather unconvincing job of a fake-out death with Glenn earlier in the season, The Walking Dead pulled out the same trick again in season six's penultimate episode, where fan favourite Daryl (Norman Reedus) is sneaked up on by Negan's (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) henchman Dwight (Austin Amelio), who promptly fires his gun, causing the screen to splatter with blood.

It's hilariously unconvincing on a story level and cheap-looking on a technical one, and it of course eventually turned out that Daryl had "merely" been shot in the shoulder.

The showrunners know how easily they can toy with their devoted fanbase, but to anyone taking a more objective look at the scenario, it just felt like a lazy way to create a social media frenzy.
