8. Laurie Metcalf's Monologue - Horace & Pete

Laurie Metcalf Horace And Pete
Louis C.K.

Horace's (Louis C.K.) ex-wife Sarah (Laurie Metcalf) explains, in excruciating detail, how she fell in lust with her current husband's 84-year-old father, who she then had an affair with.

It's a brutally awkward scene but incredibly acted by Metcalf, and writer-director C.K. smartly films the scene as a nine-minute single take.

He also smartly, devastatingly cuts to a hilarious reaction shot of himself staring at her and asking, "Why are you telling me this?"

It's an absolutely fascinating monologue about the psychology of infidelity that needs no big directorial tricks: just a camera pointed at an absolutely phenomenal actress baring herself to the viewer.
