25 Facts You Didn't Know About Doctor Who

23. Early Appearances

In 2003, an animated episode of Doctor Who titled Scream Of The Shalka was commissioned starring Richard E. Grant as the Doctor; Derek Jacobi as the Master in an android body, Sophie Okonedo as the Doctor€™s Companion Alison Cheney, and featuring David Tennant in a minor role that he managed to secure after discovering the episode was being recorded close to where he was working at the time. Years later, all four of these actors would go on to appear in Doctor Who as the Great Intelligence, The Master (again), Queen Elizabeth the 10th, and the Tenth Doctor. Grant could have also been the Ninth Doctor had Russell T. Davies not personally disliked Scream Of The Shalka€™s Doctor.

22. Splendid Chaps. All Of Them.

Counting his cameo in the utterly bizarre Children In Need special Dimensions In Time where he briefly meets the Sixth Doctor, Nicholas Courtney is the only actor to appear opposite all seven original Doctors. Every Doctor other than the First and Sixth has at least one story involving UNIT or the Brigadier, and Courtney€™s first appearance in Doctor Who was in the William Hartnell story The Daleks' Masterplan where he played Space Agent Bret Vyon. Courtney also appeared alongside the Eighth Doctor in the Big Finish audio plays The Spectre Of Lanyon Moor and Zagreus. And in what would have been his final appearance alongside a Doctor, he came close to guest starring in The Sarah Jane Adventures-Doctor Who crossover €œThe Wedding Of Sarah Jane Smith€ alongside the Tenth Doctor but had to be written out following a stroke.
