25 Greatest Characters Across The Entire Whedonverse

22. Wash

Serenity Alan TudykAppeared in: Firefly, Serenity What spaceship is complete without a wisecracking pilot? Wash was a wonderful part of Firefly, and played well against his much more dominant wife, Zoe, in a well-rounded portrayal by Alan Tyduk (Death at a Funeral), always a welcome addition to any cast. Wash was an integral part of the crew - so unsurprisingly, fans were beyond pissed off when Wash was thoughtlessly killed off in the big screen version of Firefly, Serenity. It wasn't that he was killed, but how he was killed, in a crash scene that countless characters in similar movies have walked away from. It felt like a rushed ending to a beloved character, and it seemed to be a meaningless death. When alive? Wash was a great character, and the fan unrest over his death proved it.
