25 Greatest Characters Across The Entire Whedonverse

21. Echo

Appeared in: Dollhouse The titular character of Dollhouse was portrayed by Eliza Dushku, once again working with Whedon after appearing on both Buffy and Angel as the rogue vampire slayer Faith. Why was she great? Well, for one, Dushku was back on screen in a Whedon-created show. Dollhouse was designed with Dushku in mind, so the role was written for her. When you're getting material that is basically custom made for a specific answer, you know the creative team is putting the effort in. As mentioned, Dollhouse revolves around an underground market for "dolls" - humans who can be imprinted as almost anyone, rented for sex, assassinations, or, you know, to seal your driveway. Of course, the whole premise of the show centres on Echo remembering who she was before she was a doll - it's essentially the journey of Echo reclaiming her past life. It's an interesting concept, and an interesting character, but as the show only lasted two seasons, we never really got to see its full potential.
