25 Greatest Sci-Fi TV Shows Of All Time

3. Stranger Things

The X Files
Netflix

Stranger Things is a rare breed in that it successfully manages to evoke the timelessness of a specific time period in order to set itself apart from everything else in its genre today. An unexpected gem (to say the least), it exploded onto Netflix in 2016 and made overnight stars out of its younger cast while giving former headliners like Winona Ryder another long overdue chance to shine.

Set in the seemingly harmless town of Hawkins, it initially follows the adventures of three kids who, upon the disappearance of their friend Will, inadvertently wander into a parallel world of limitless possibilities and the disturbingly impossible. And in spite of how realistic and frightening the events that occur are, the show benefits from the perspective of Mike, Dustin, Lucas and Will as it all just seems like one big fantasy adventure.

A show that makes the existence of even the most unfathomable of creatures seem that much more believable, Stranger Things is a thrill-ride soaked in more nostalgia than your VCR could process that just never stops peeling back the layers between your adult personas and your inner child - and that makes this eerie story an incredibly charming one.
