25 Greatest Sci-Fi TV Shows Of All Time

4. Doctor Who

The X Files
BBC

One of the most iconic TV shows of all time, Doctor Who has become a national institution, entertaining audiences for generations and amassing a global following the likes of which few British shows have ever achieved.

Centering on the quirky, erratic Time Lord and his time-travelling TARDIS, the show has been intermittently on the air since 1963 (though it did spend a rather large portion off screens between 1989 and 2005) and has gone through many reinventions throughout that time as some variation of The Doctor and his companion battled Cybermen and Daleks across space and time.

Whether you followed the original escapades of the character through the likes of William Hartnell, Jon Pertwee or Peter Davison in the classic series, grew up with the revival through Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi or you're just now watching for Jodie Whittaker's offering, the fact is that Doctor Who has become a way of life for so many generations - and everything, from the witty dialogue to the always impressive special effects, has allowed it to stand the test of time... appropriate for a Time Lord.
