6. M.A.S.H
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SDSMm8IlR9I&feature=related I have to admit that before writing this list I wasn't really all that familiar with this theme from "M.A.S.H" and despite it being a very critically acclaimed show I haven't seen an episode. In my defense, I wasn't even almost born when this show was on air. But even still, when I was researching great theme tunes from shows I hadn't seen to make this list as fair as possibly and I came across this one (which features on many other similar lists to this in very high positions) I was immediately moved by it. To be honest, I much prefer this song "Suicide is Painless" with the lyrics attached, but even without this hauntingly beautiful song probably deserves such a high position, and this tune alone makes me more interested in actually watching the original series than I had been previously.
5. The X Files
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQoRXhS7vlU Embarrassingly again, despite the genre of this show being exactly the type of genre I like from a TV show (I am one of very few fans of Fringe) I never did watch The X Files and have yet to see one of The X Files movies. In fact, up until recently when I actually did watch an episode for the very first time (wasn't all that impressed) most of my knowledge of The X Files came from that episode of The Simpsons where they all think an alien lives in the woods but it turns out it is just a drugged up Mr Burns. If someone out there really loves this show, please convince me to by the box-sets. I really really would like another show like this to watch considering Fringe is coming to an end. Like most of the songs on this list, the most iconic part comes within the first couple of seconds, and this may be the most iconic first couple of seconds of any theme tune ever (just about beating out Seinfeld and The Simpsons). All this said however, this is one of those tunes that I often forget, and when I am not around the Internet, I struggle to think of how it goes (a bit like trying to think of the Superman theme and the Star Wars theme... I usually think of the opposite one before the one I am actually trying to remember).
