25 Most Hotly Anticipated New TV Shows Of 2019

13. Central Park Five

Central Park Five
Florentine Films

Who: Ava DuVernay

What: A miniseries telling the story of the Central Park Five case, which saw five teenagers in 1989 convicted of raping a jogger, only to be found innocent and released from prison in 2002. They went on to sue New York City, settling the case in 2014.

Why: The Central Park jogger case was one of the most publicised and controversial cases of the 1980s. A tale of great injustice, it's also one highly-charged by race, and saw one Donald Trump very publicly calling for their imprisonment. Like with The People v O.J. Simpson, it's the kind of story that should translate very well to the small screen, and you can imagine DuVernay turning the same sort of passion and level of detail to this as she did documentary 13th. The cast includes Michael K. Williams, Vera Farmiga, and John Leguizamo.

Where & When: Netflix, TBC

NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far. A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
