25 New And Returning TV Shows To Watch This Summer

The new MTV series Scream is an adaptation of the popular slasher franchise created by Wes Craven, and that's an idea that doesn't sound like it should work. The trailer, however, seems fully aware of that, with one of the characters saying in the series' trademark meta way, "you can't do a slasher movie as a TV series." Is he right?

Based on the trailer, the show seems to be doing its own thing separately from the movie, which is probably for the best. It doesn't attempt to adapt any of the characters from the movie, but rather simply sticks with the franchise's trademarks: the idea that anyone can be the killer, the shocking gore, and the fun, meta humour. 

It could still be a disappointment, and it's not totally clear if MTV is the right network for this kind of thing, but based on this trailer, it looks like the show has a chance of being a decent amount of fun. Although, really, a proper Scream 5 would be a lot more exciting.
