3. Wolf Hall

Showing: April 5th It seems that Damian Lewis can do very little wrong on television: not content with owning the Forsyth Saga and Life, he then moved on to bigger fish with Band Of Brothers and Homeland, and has cemented himself as one of the hottest names. The rest is history, and he now has three movies (all massive projects), a TV movie for Showtime and another mini-series in the works, but first up is this adaptation of Hilary Mantel's award-winning historical novel. Wolf Hall will follow the tale of how Henry VIII was transformed from charismatic prince to notoriously excessive tyrant, as the backdrop to the rise of Thomas Cromwell. Yes it sounds terribly weighty, but it's going to be a lavish historical event at a time when retrospective is irresistible. Intriguingly, Lewis says the depression that grew in him after a road crash in his twenties will inform his performance as the king. The Selling Point: Does anyone really need an excuse to watch Damian Lewis? He's already killed it twice with two major TV shows in Band Of Brothers and Homeland, and despite a change of pace, this should be another performance-led affair. The Concerns: It's hardly going to have the thrills and spills of Homeland...
