1. The Man In The High Castle (2015-16)
Based on Philip K Dick's 1962 alternate-history novel of the same name, Amazon Prime's pilot of "The Man in the High Castle" was simply brilliant. Set in an alternate history in which the Axis Powers won World War II, post-war USA is divided into three sections: the Japanese puppet state of the "Pacific States of America" on the west coast, a German puppet state on the east coast, as well as the "Rocky Mountain States" in the neutral zone in-between. Following central characters Juliana Crain, Ed McCarthy and Nobusuke Tagomi, it shows what life could have been like had the Nazis and Japanese split the US if they had won the war. One of the cleverest parts of the storyline is that a resistance movement arises using tapes that bear an alternate history which, in the pilot show, was the actual historical footage of real-life events. This science-fiction thriller is currently in the production stages for a full series, telling the novel's story in its entirety as the resistance movement attempts to overthrow the oppressive Nazi and Japanese regimes. The Selling Point: A post-World War II Nazi world - that means intrigue, if nothing else, should draw the viewers in. What's more the pilot was breathtaking and expertly put together, so if that's anything to go by, this should be a fantastic series. The Concerns: Can the brilliance of the pilot be matched throughout an entire series? Apart from that, few to any.
