Eva Longoria is not only making her television return in NBC's new comedy show "Telenovela" - she is also helping to produce it. The comedic primetime "soap opera" will see Longoria play "Ana Maria" - a star of a TV show in Latin America even though she can't speak Spanish. A 13-show run has been commissioned, and Longoria has based the premise on her own inability to speak Spanish until recently - so hopefully her personal experience will help give a realism to the programme. The Selling Point: Eva Longoria's TV return. That will immediately guarantee viewers. The Concerns: Once you've played the whole "she doesn't speak Spanish" joke a few times, it's hard to see where this comedy series can go. Let's hope it offers so much more than that.
17. Hoff The Record (2015)
Created by the award-winning makers of the brilliant "An Idiot Abroad", "Hoff the Record" is a six-part semi-improvised comedy series that sees David Hasselhoff play a fictionalised version of himself after arriving in Britain in an attempt to revive his flailing career. Shot as a "mockumentary", this UKTV production will be exclusively shown on comedy channel Dave and, as the Hoff himself explained:
"When I made Baywatch I dreamed of one day having my own show on a channel named after me. Hoff the Record is coming soon to the UK, only on Dave. They did name the channel after me, right?"
The Hoff's still got it, clearly... The Selling Point: The Hoff himself - he is brilliant at being self-depreciating and, if sometimes a little poor acting-wise, he doesn't shy away from anything. The Concerns: Mockumentaries are a delicate art form - done well and they can be brilliant, but if they're poorly made then they really can be car-crash TV.
