The Voice
1. More Viewer Control Unlike American Idol, The Voice needs more viewer control. I'm going to praise The X Factor's voting system again as I believe it's truly optimal for these types of shows. Last season of The Voice, the coaches made sure they kept who they liked and not who the viewers liked. How is that helping anyone? We're the ones buying the music, not you. The only time viewers had complete control was the finale and we all know how that turned out. It wasn't clear if this past season of the voice counted iTunes sales into the votes, but it sure didn't seem like it. That was one thing I praised in the original season and it should continue that way as it's a true measure of who will actually sell albums. When the coaches have all the control, viewers lose interest and when viewers lose interest, the show does as well.2. Battle Rounds Revamp The Blind Auditions are no doubt the best part of this show. It really is the literal selling point as it brings in the most viewers. After that however, ratings take a huge dive as the Battle Rounds start. Why is this such a problem? Personally, I hate these rounds because for the most part, they're obviously rigged. Maybe once or twice you'll get a shocking decision, but even then, the whole concept is flawed to begin with. The show isn't even giving these contestants a chance to shine. You can even see the look on the fated-to-lose contestant's face as they spurt out random reasons why they have a chance knowing in all reality, that they don't. There's all to obvious flawed favoritism here and the concept of a battle is just wrong for a singing competition. I suggest having "saves" where the other coaches can bring one loser back to their team or even have us at home vote on who should come back. This will actually give us a reason to watch these bouts of random chaos going on. 3. Make a Star Like The X Factor, for The Voice to continue its run, they really need to make a star. For the past two seasons, generic outdated singers have been named "the voice" and have gone on to have careers like Taylor Hicks, but worse, because at least people know Taylor Hicks to have a failed career. No one even knows or cares about Javier Colon or more recently Jermaine Paul. I'm still bitter over that whole fiasco. Juliet Simms should have won as she actually had something going for her. I laughed when the internet went "huh?" at Jermaine's victory, mostly because I was laughing at how random and out of nowhere it came. No one expected him to win and no one still does. Did you know he has a single out? I didn't think so. This show needs a star badly. Give people a reason to keep tuning in past the Blind Auditions. Be more selective in the initial producer rounds, see who can actually sell albums, and forget Jermaine already, he's a lost cause. Honourable mention to Duets, a show that is so broken that I could write a whole article on it. To sum it up, Duets needs to look at all nine of these changes and then some in order for it to be a contender. Good luck. What do you think? Will these suggested changes make a difference to any of the shows? Which show is your favourite? Share your thoughts below.
