3 Ups & 3 Downs From Star Wars: Clone Wars 7.5 - Gone With A Trace

4. Down - Tonal Shifts

Clone Wars Season 7 Episode 5
Lucasfilm

In the episode's climax, Trace has defeated the binary loadlifter right on a ledge, but suddenly, the droid starts to fall with Trace on top of it. As she braces herself for her death, Ashoka saves her by pulling the droid back up with force, as Kevin Kliner's score swells in the background, invoking John Williams' binary sunset theme. It's an epic moment. That is, until Trace pulls herself up, laughing, with comedic sounding music playing in the background.

These tonal inconsistencies are an issue throughout the entire episode. They're a big reason why the opening bike crash doesn't work, and when Ashoka fights off the debt collectors, another epic moment, it's primarily played for laughs, taking away a lot of its value. Had the episode used a more consistent tone, more of its elements would have landed.
