28. Dark Water/Death In Heaven

The most recent entry on our list, Dark Water/Death in Heaven served as a cracking finale to Peter Capaldi's inaugural series as the Doctor. Not only did it bring Clara and Danny's storyline to a satisfactory and emotional conclusion, it also found time to feature the return of the Brigadier (sort of), zombie-Iron Man Cybermen and the Doctor becoming President of the Earth. Oh yes, and the Master became a woman - played by the marvellously manic Michelle Gomez. These episodes are a great template for the perfect series closer. The plot and scale of both have a great effect on the characters and come together to form the best finale in years. Did we mention... bananas!?
