You'd be hard pressed to find a more culturally significant show in British television than Dad's Army. Airing between 1968 and 1977, the war-time sitcom follows a group of men in the Home Guard during World War Two.

All too old to join the British Army, the group spend the war years in a seaside town on the south coast of England, and find themselves dealing with the possibility of invasion and the lack of equipment that the Home Guard have.

With humour ranging from the slapstick (seen in older serviceman Jack Jones) to the subtle (in regards to the class differences of the core group), Dad's Army is home to numerous iconic one-liners, from the recurring "Don't panic!" to "You stupid boy."

Repeated on TV to this day, the show is a perfect example of just how influential and far-reaching television can be, highlighting an under-seen aspect of the war and making it funny, accessible and observant in the process.
