30 Greatest TV Sitcoms Of All Time
4. Seinfeld
The creation of comic genius Larry David, this '80s/'90s sitcom follows comedian and co-creator Jerry Seinfeld, his best friend George (Jason Alexander), his ex-girlfriend Elaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) and mad neighbour Cosmo (Michael Richards) as they make their way through life.
With little in the way of a clear plot, Seinfeld's power lies in its simplicity. This is a show which looks at the most insignificant, boring parts of our lives and makes them the butt of numerous hilarious jokes and conversation starters.
It also stands apart from other in the genre because of its decision to make the characters unlikable, their egos getting in the way of their success and their pride ruining their lives.
The performances of Alexander and Louis-Dreyfus are particular standouts throughout the show's nine seasons, and the clever writing of Larry David is some of the best that TV has ever seen, making the show constantly endearing, relatable and effective.
