30 Stars You Forgot Appeared On The X-Files

28. Charles Nelson Reilly

Charles Nelson Reilly, the late game show icon, television, and stage star, was brought onto The X-Files during the show's original run for the quirky, campy fan-favourite episode Jose Chung's From Outer Space in the third season of the show. The episode sees Mulder and Scully used as unreliable narrators with disputing versions of events regarding a possible alien abduction, while Reilly portrays Jose Chung, an author writing a book on alien abductions. The episode is rife with references to alien abduction lore and figures in the community surrounding it: Chung can be seen as a play on Whitley Strieber, author of Communion (his book has a cover almost identical to Strieber's), while other characters share names with authors, abductees, and even skeptics, including Robert Sheaffer, Jacques Vallee, Dr. J. Allen Hynek, and Philip Klass. The episode was popular enough that Reilly would return to the role of Jose Chung on Chris Carter's other series, Millennium.
