35 Moments That Blew Attack On Titan Fan's Minds

33. The Colossal Titan Appears

Attack on Titan has always been masterful at lulling its audience into a false sense of security, before surprising them with an epic or thrilling moment. That precedent was set from the opening episode and has lasted throughout.

An early example of the show's propensity to try and catch the audience off guard occurs during an episode in which we find out which characters have decided to join the Survey Corps.

Although it's a cool episode with some good character development, if the entire episode was based solely on what team they were going to be on, it would've felt like a waste of 20+ minutes.

Thankfully for us, the show's creator, Hajime Isayama, and the season's director, Tetsurō Araki, knew just that, which is why the Colossal Titan popping up out of nowhere was so amazing.

Watching Eren as he composes himself and flies into action against this absurdly large titan shows how ready he was - or at least he thought he was - for battle.
