I watch a lot of television, and unfortunately, a lot of that is television that gets canceled far too early. Now, there's a few shows that should be on this list such as Ugly Betty, Arrested Development, Home Movies or Pushing Daisies but because they knew they were getting canceled and were able to wrap up their series (or in the case of AD even COME BACK and make more) they aren't in this article. This is about series that were canceled, but had a finale that is actually decent enough to be a good, abrupt series finale. Let's start.
WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD
4. Dead Like Me (2003-2004)
Dead Like Me, created by Bryan Fuller (Hannibal, Pushing Daisies) is one of the few people I show up for whatever he makes. His name is that important to me, and his work is extremely well respected. DLM wasn't his first foray into television but it was considered his big break, and rightfully so. Though he left by episode 5, the series was still phenomenal, and what's bizarre about it's cancelation is that later on down the road, someone interviewed Showtime and asked why the series was canned. Their response? "We don't know." DLM's abrupt cancelation has always been an issue of debate in Fullers body of work, and as cool as some of the stuff they were building to would've been (like Krystal possibly being a Reaper or the explanation of Rubes past and death) the finale actually is ok and left me feeling like "Yes, it would've been wonderful had it continued, but I accept this." A lot of that is due to the way the 2nd season ended, because a lot of the series revolves around the relationship new reaper George shares with her little sister, who is still alive. The final scene- which you can view here - is absolutely beautiful, especially the last line. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVYB0AWw2EQ It's a damn shame DLM didn't get to last longer (and instead inspired awful rip offs like Reaper, no offense Ray Wise because you're awesome) but as it stands, it's got a pretty darn near perfect finale for being canceled so abruptly.
