4 Iconic TV Characters Recast After The Pilot

3. Faceman (The A-Team)

faceman €˜In 1972, a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them....maybe you can hire The A-Team€™ Few television shows have an introduction as iconic as The A-Team€™s, which featured the aforementioned quote. The crack commando unit in question consisted of John €˜Hannibal€™ Smith (George Peppard), Bosco €˜B.A€™ Baracus (Mr. T), H.M. €˜Howling Mad€™ Murdock (Dwight Schultz) and Templeton €˜Faceman€™ Peck (Tim Dunigan). Wait, what? The pilot episode of the show saw Face, the team€™s ladies man and con artist, played by Tim Dunigan at the behest of network executives, who overruled the show€™s creators, Stephen Cannell and Frank Lupo, who wanted Dirk Benedict to play the role. The executives realised that their decision was the wrong one when they discovered that Dunigan was both much taller and much younger looking (which made his portrayal of a Vietnam veteran unrealistic) than the rest of the cast, and replaced the man (who has since quit acting to become a mortgage broker) with Benedict before filming of the show€™s second episode commenced.
