4 Reasons Sherlock Should End With Season 4

4. How Long Must We Keep Waiting?

As I mentioned, the biggest problem with the show is the two-year gaps between seasons: any other show is gone for a few months at most before airing again, but Sherlock doesn't have that luxury. The two stars have become hot commodities in Hollywood: Cumberbatch had a great year in 2013 with films like 12 Years A Slave, Star Trek Into Darkness, The Fifth Estate, and The Desolation Of Smaug (in which he played not one, but two iconic villains.) Freeman, on the other hand, has been headlining the Hobbit trilogy while making comparatively smaller films like Edgar Wright's The World's End. Of course, with the Hobbit films coming to a close this year, perhaps the actors will have more time on their hands, but that inevitably means they'll have time for other high-profile projects as well. How long can the show honestly go on if we have to keep waiting two years for it to come back? The actors aren't getting any younger (Cumberbatch is 37, Freeman is 42), and frankly, neither are we. I'd love to see the show go on forever, but logistically it has to end at some point.
