The Doctor, in all of Classic Who, never had romantic attachments to any of his companions. Most of them he saw as friends or as a father or teacher-like figure. However, for the first time in Doctor Who, he laid a kiss upon his companion to be, Grace Holloway, during the 1996 TV Movie. This smooch paved the way for each Doctor after him (minus the War Doctor) to lock lips with someone.
