In the episode The Five Doctors, the First Doctor (now played by Richard Hurndall due to William Hartnell's passing) lets the Fifth Doctor's companions know who he is by informing them that he is the Doctor. It reaffirm not only to the companions, but to the viewers, that he is the one who started it all. The original, you might say!
