5 Best & 5 Worst US TV Remakes

1. Red Dwarf For fans of cult UK sci-fi sitcom Red Dwarf, the infamous 1992 pilot for a US remake has become the stuff of legends. Despite featuring an odd mix of science fiction and traditional situation comedy, the surprise success of Red Dwarf on the BBC made a US remake inevitable. Sadly, despite the best efforts of writers Rob Grant and Doug Naylor, along with Robert Llewellyn€™s reprisal as Kryton, Red Dwarf US was immediately canned after an ill-fated pilot. While it was never aired on TV, the pilot has since been heavily bootlegged by collectors and is now available in all of its cringeworthy glory on YouTube. As with many of the shows on this list, the pilot episode closely follows that of the UK counterpart, but with a new cast including a pre-Frasier Jane Leeves and an overly handsome Craig Beirko - filling in for the slobbish portrayal of Lister by Craig Charles. If the casting problems weren€™t enough, Red Dwarf US€™ script was a confused amalgamation of multiple drafts, failing to adapt Red Dwarf€™s quintessentially British humour - complete with gags about PE Teachers and novelty condoms. With US Networks left unimpressed with the pilot, Red Dwarf US was canned, never to be seen again. However, the original BBC version of Red Dwarf has since become a cult hit in the US, with frequent reruns attracting significant viewing figures. _______________________ Which US TV remakes have you enjoyed and disliked ?
