2. The Sandman By Neil Gaiman
Recent developments suggest that David Goyer has pitched studios an idea for a film adaptation and while that may be initially exciting, it's the wrong approach. In order to properly tell the story of Dream and his siblings, multiple films would need to be made and we're talking a serious monetary commitment from a brave studio. These are incredibly weird stories, very dense in detail and extremely adult in nature. Adapting these stories for film would put a big onus on the filmmakers to water down the material in order to make them as accessible to as many people as possible. Frankly, this is never a great idea and would kill The Sandman. This brings us to television. If you put this baby into the hands of pay cable, you could really have something. HBO wouldn't be out of the equation because Game Of Thrones has proven shows with supposedly limited fanbases can explode when handled with care plus Gaiman himself has a relationship with the network as they're in the process of adapting his American Gods. Basically, everyone should get into the Neil Gaiman business, as well as the Dennis LeHane one. Ultimately, I think Starz would make for the perfect home. Based on what they did with the Spartacus series and now DaVinci's Demons, they're all just weird enough to pull it off. Specifically, the us of cgi would be most welcome in telling the story of the endless. The fantastical backdrops that help tell this story would be way easier to pull off this way. I can't see how this isn't being brought up, especially considering Goyer himself brought DaVinci to Starz.
