1. The Dark Tower Series By Stephen King
And now to the final and most obvious entry. Stephen King's The Dark Tower series has been begging for an adaptation for a long time now. Ron Howard has one heck of an ambitious idea for how to adapt the epic tale of Roland Deschain and his ka-tet but just because it's ambitious, it doesn't make it a good idea. Originally they were going to shoot three movies with two seasons of television sprinkled between the three films. NBC was to be the network to host the television portions and that should have been the first red flag. These films need to be rated R, there's absolutely no room for debate there, and there's no way NBC could possibly air R-rated material. The adaptation saw little movement over a few years and soon new deals were discussed involving HBO. Now we're talking. The whole point though, is this: why bother with films when you have HBO involved? If it's a matter of money, find a co-financer. It wouldn't be the first time HBO brought Rome to us with the help of the BBC and considering how audiences are beginning to flock to edgier fare, monetary help should not be hard to find. The time is now to get this deal done and bring King's magnum opus to the screen. What once seemed unfilmable because of how many genres it blended (fantasy, western, horror, sci-fi, to name a few) is now something seen in high demand. So, Mr. Howard, do the right thing. So that's what I think. What do you think? Feel free to comment!
