5 David Attenborough Documentaries To Change The World
2. Extinction: The Facts (2020)
Extinction: The Facts was only released for public viewing on the 14 September 2020 but the punch it packed will last a lifetime. Here Attenborough doubled down on the fact that our destructive relationship with the environment is steering us towards the global collapse of ecosystems. Structures our survival depends upon.
During a documentary that many will have had to watch from behind the sofa, we were informed that if we don’t curb our unsustainable habits, our encroachment and destruction of wild places will cause the mass extinction of over one million species and, potentially, our own.
On that theme, Attenborough’s revelation, that the current coronavirus pandemic is thought to have been caused by our encroachment into the wild, cannot help but make even the most hardened urbanite sit up and take notice.
While this documentary is arguably too recent to yield any large-scale, recognisable change, such is the reach and strength of its content, that change can’t help but follow. The message? Take your medicine and swallow it down, because we’re all complicit.
