5 Doctor Who Writers Who Should Return For Series 9 (Plus 5 New Ones)

7. Neil Gaiman

Neil Gaiman Neil Gaiman's established history of fantasy, horror and science fiction stories put him at the top of many a Whovian wish list and their dreams finally came true in 2011 when he made his Doctor Who debut with The Doctor's Wife. And it was an absolute corker! In just 45 minutes Neil managed to well and truly leave his unique mark on the Doctor Who mythology. He transformed the essence of the TARDIS into an eccentric human (think Helena Bonham Carter at Disneyland on Christmas Day...) and sent the fingertips of the more vocal members of the online Doctor Who community into overdrive by suggesting that Time Lords possess the ability to change their gender during regeneration. Well, that's one way to make an impact.. Expanding on that, Neil has since stated that if he were to ever become showrunner, bringing a female Doctor into the frame would be at the top of his agenda, but that's a discussion for another day... Neil returned to Doctor Who last year to bring fans a Cyberman adventure of epic proportions (Nightmare in Silver) and he recently revealed that he would love the opportunity to write for Peter Capaldi. "It would be a very sad thing if I lost my chance to write for a grumpy, Scottish Doctor," he said in an interview. A lot of fans would tend to agree, and, in case there was any doubt, he certainly seems to have a firm grasp on what all this writing malarkey is about... Tumblr Lvjyug9nur1qev7yro1 500 Gif
