Based on the beloved 1947 film, the series saw a recently-widowed lady move with her posse into a manor once owned by rough seaman Captain Gregg, who still dwells within the premises despite having been deceased for some time. The dude grouches at the new arrival but quickly becomes part of the family. A very funny and endearing series where a strapping Richard Mulhare more than aptly filled the shoes of Rex Harrison as the Captain. A cult-classic of Fantasy-Comedy, it still came along too late to be remembered as widely and fondly as some of its contemporaries like I Dream of Jeannie or Bewitched. By1968 the escapist fare that such shows provided was largely overshadowed by the social shifts of the Vietnam War era, where protests and anti-establishment movements left little room for early 60's surrealism. It probably also wasn't helped by a network switch after the first of its only-2 seasons, moving from NBC to ABC to cancellation.
