5 Most Disappointing TV Shows Of 2018 (So Far)
3. Westworld
In parts, Westworld's second season was an improvement over the first, with moments where there was more of an emphasis on emotional storytelling to go with its obvious qualities (everything from the production values to the cast is once again superb).
Too often, though, the show felt like the writers were making it up as it went along (with more than a few shades of Lost in there) and trying to be too clever simply for the sake of it ('it' in this case meaning to stay a few steps ahead of Reddit). The multiple timelines often weren't necessary, and were especially too convoluted in Bernard's story, and characters often did things without much reason or rhyme.
That's not to say it was bad to watch; for much of the season it was highly entertaining, with a couple of genuinely great episodes (Kiksuya and Riddle of the Sphinx). But there's a lot of potential in Westworld to be something truly great as a sci-fi series, and what's really disappointing and frustrating is that too often it feels like its onus on plot twists and trying to shock or trick viewers is getting in the way of it realising that, when it could be crafting genuinely complex characters and providing some deep answers to the big questions it purports to tackle.
