5 Most OMFG-Inducing Gossip Girl Moments

2. The Reveal of Gossip Girl

ht_dan_080418_mn This one almost didn't seem as shocking as it should have been. For six years, the Gossip Girl audience had listened to Kristen Bell narrate each episode as the notorious blogger. We were treated to nothing but occasional interactions with the titular character: Serena went to war with her in the finale of the second season, main characters began interacting with her via text in Season 4. But it wasn't until Season 5 that the show went meta. First Georgina hacked Gossip Girl, then Serena stole it, then Gossip Girl took her site back at the end of the season - all while Nate conducted an investigation into GG's identity. But no one was prepared for the final episode of the series when it was revealed that none other than Dan Humphrey was the writer who had been chronicling the lives of Manhattan's elite the entire time. Unfortunately, the series finale also had to fit in two weddings into its one hour of allotted time and the audience was given a sub-par reasoning behind the revelation. The lack of thorough explanation takes this moment almost instantly from flabbergasting to flummoxing. Why does Serena accept Dan so easily? Why are the rest of the characters okay with it? How does one explain the plotholes and the times that Dan reacted to Gossip Girl posts alone in his room in the show's earlier seasons? Does Dan have some sort of personality disorder that causes those reactions? We may never know.
