5 Periods Of History That Doctor Who Should Visit

Doctor Who Japan From Cold War Europe to imperial Japan. From the spies and suspicion of the 1960s to the traditions and values of 17th Century Asia. Most certainly taking Doctor Who from one extreme to another. The 1600s were a time when Japan was still very much rooted in its medieval fighting traditions €“ samurai still ruled the roost and controlled the Emperor€™s kingdom with poise and their exemplary disciplinary skills. A samurai class of less than 10 per cent of the Japanese population maintained law and order in the country, effectively acting as the Emperor€™s special police force. And, every now and again €“ at least one or twice a series since the programme€™s reboot €“ the Doctor finds himself dressing up in what appears to be the most ludicrous and out-of-place garments. If Capaldi found himself sent back in time to Japan in the 1650s he would surely be given a traditional outfit €“ the armour, the cloak, and of course the samurai sword. Defending the future of the human race while clad in such bizarre garments can surely not fail in making brilliant television €“ and that€™s even before you get into the storyline itself. The Doctor would arrive in 17th Century East Asia to find Imperial Japan facing a crisis like never before €“ it is under attack from an extra-terrestrial life-force who is attempting to destroy the country from within. All Japan has to defend itself is the traditional warrior classes of the samurai €“ accompanied by a little expertise from a Time Lord. I can see it now: €œSamurai vs Aliens€. It has a bit of a ring to it, don€™t you think?
