5 Reasons Bringing Back The Monty Python Franchise Is A Terrible Idea (And 1 Reason It's Not)

But!

Mpmpmp There are reasons to be doubtful of the reunion, but the fact is this will probably be the last time the Pythons perform together. Even if it is a cash grab and even if they're all well past their prime, there's bound to be a little magic. Their best sketches are exquisitely structured and have survived repetition by legions of Python nerds. Even if Messrs Cleese, Idle, Palin, Gilliam and Jones can have completely forgotten how to wring laughs from those prized set-ups, then...it doesn't matter. In the end, it might be the fans who make these shows, doing what they do best- quoting lines at each other, dressing up as Gumbys and generally making fools of themselves. What does matter is remembering why Python caused all this fuss in the first place. A whole generation has grown up with no significant exposure to Spiny Norman, Dennis Moore, a man with a tape recorder up his nose and gorn. By thrusting their surreal world back into the spotlight, the reunion has already succeeded, reminding us all that they were excrementally runny in the first place. Sorry, I meant exceptionally funny.

I am Scotland's 278,000th best export and a self-proclaimed expert on all things Bond-related. When I'm not expounding on the delights of A View to a Kill, I might be found under a pile of Dr Who DVDs, or reading all the answers in Star Wars Trivial Pursuit. I also prefer to play Playstation games from the years 1997-1999. These are the things I like.
