5 Reasons Chibnall's Doctor Who Era Failed

3. Dull Advertising

Doctor Who the Doctor The Timeless Children

Every Doctor Who series needs showstopping advertising. It’s a cultural flagship. It’s one of the biggest shows ever and the BBC’s greatest achievement. In the past, we’ve had some of the most spectacular trailers to rival those of Hollywood movies. Remember that iconic trailer for season six? They used to get everyone talking, speculating, and the hype would be felt around the world in the lead up to a new series.

Since Chibnall’s era, advertising has taken a major nosedive. We’re currently potentially very close to the start of season thirteen, but we’d never know. All we’ve had so far is a very short trailer that focused on established characters and a few shots of nothing in particular. This secrecy doesn’t get fans excited. We like to have an idea of what’s coming - we want to see monsters and action: we want an idea of the story.

Giving fans nothing, especially after such a long break doesn’t help. It gets nobody hyped up. With the latest season, we’re still waiting for a release date despite it being due to start very soon. The worst part is that we know the next trailer will just introduce us to more guest stars rather than show anything decent. It’s all very…meh

Simon is a writer, cat dad and presenter of a geeky radio show with his husband. He loves Doctor Who (except 10 who can get in the bin…only joking.) He idolises Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Lara Croft and would 100% be a Sith Lord in a galaxy far, far away. He wishes life was like a musical so he’d actually be a good singer.
