5 Reasons How I Met Your Mother Finale Is As Bad As You Remember (And 3 Reasons It Isn't)

7. Is As Bad: The Barney/Robin Divorce

HIMYM Barney Daughter
CBS

Linking with the last point, Barney and Robin's marriage coming to an unceremonious end was a real gut-punch. Not purely because fans wanted them to stay together, but because the entirety of season nine up to their divorce was set over the weekend of their wedding, building up and then executing their union.

To watch all of that just to have the couple break up in the finale - without build-up or any insight into their marriage as a whole - just felt like a betrayal of their character, and a slap to fans who had spent all the last few seasons watching their relationship grow.

Thanks to the quick-fire nature of the finale, too, the divorce isn't even executed very well, and finds itself lost in the events surrounding it. With little focus and care, the whole thing still feels a bit redundant, and makes season nine a pointless addition to Ted's epic journey.

I get to write about what I love, so that's pretty cool. Every great film should seem new every time you see it. Be excellent to each other.
