5 Reasons How I Met Your Mother Finale Is As Bad As You Remember (And 3 Reasons It Isn't)

4. Isn't As Bad: Ted And Robin Were Finally Right For Each Other

That final, lingering shot is what many fans associate with the How I Met Your Mother finale and why it failed. After telling his long and winding tale, Ted finally plucks-up the courage to go after Robin once more, offering her the blue french horn just as he did in the show's Pilot.

Whilst many see this as a betrayal of what the show was all about, there is a silver lining if you really read into it.

Ted and Robin were, for the most part, the ultimate will-they-won't-they. Ted fell in love, got together with someone else, Robin fell in love, they dated, broke up, and spent years falling for each other over and over again.

There were a lot of things that got in the way of them being together, but the main reasons were two-fold. One, Ted wanted kids, which Robin wasn't on board with. And two, Robin wanted to travel and focus on her career.

In those final moments, both Ted and Robin have both achieved their biggest dreams. Ted had kids, built a family, and Robin had become a world famous news anchor who had travelled the globe.

It may not have been what fans were after, but on paper both Ted and Robin's reunion makes total sense.
