1. It's Embarrassing
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xETLdYC-zU4 I know people who cannot watch The Office and Extras because the embarrassing situations in which these characters find themselves can be too to bear for some. it is too much to bear in terms of the embarrassment these characters find themselves in. I personally see this as a great method of writing, showcasing the care the writers have for the characters they create. When a show would rather have you turn away rather than see them go through it, that's the mark of a well-realised character. Let me tell you now, Hello Ladies takes that cringe-y, toe-curling nature and amplifies it by 100. The awkwardness factor is ramped up so hard in this show, that I sometimes heard myself shouting at the TV screen in an attempt to not actually hear anymore as it became unbearable. This is not a criticism, but Hello Ladies is HIGHLY predictable. You can just see how Stuart is about to mess it up for himself and it is just a matter of time before he escalates situations to a point where they are out of control. One particular example is when he goes on a second date with a girl after a first, very successful one. All is going well until she starts looking at her phone once too often. She leaves her phone on the side and Stuart feels he has to look to see who she is talking to. It shows her last two texts from somebody called 'Alex' and they say 'Missing you' and 'Can't wait to see you'. This plays on his mind throughout the date, but he keeps quiet and drops her off at a friend's house at the end of the night. I wanted Stuart to stop there, but knew he wouldn't. He then goes on to spy on her inside the house and she spots him. when confronted, he almost gets himself out of it, bagging another date with her in the process of stalking her not bad going, you might think. Then he confronts her about 'Alex', quickly finding out that it is actually her brother. Not believing her, he chastises her until she reveals that he has leukaemia, which is why she is so keen to text him. Merchant tries to fumble his way out but he has gone too far, she tells him to 'F*** off' and that's the end of his night. You can often see these moments happening but you are powerless to stop them. If you can endure the embarrassment factor that his worse than The Office and Extras combined, then I would highly recommend that you start watching Hello Ladies at the earliest opportunity. So that's what I think. What do you think of Hello Ladies? Feel free to comment!
